Fourteen of these unique bogie vehicles were constructed to carry six cars each, with a hydraulically-operated central well holding two cars and four on the upper deck. Originally coded \u003ci\u003eTCV\u003c\/i\u003e (Two-Tier Motor Car Van), they were later reclassified as \u003ci\u003eNVV\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eNVX\u003c\/i\u003e under BR’s TOPS system. Initially in lined maroon, they were repainted in blue-grey with \u003ci\u003eMotorail\u003c\/i\u003e branding from 1966 as part of British Rail’s long-distance car-carrying services.
