Detailed Description
The Class 47 is one of the most mass produced locomotives of the BR Fleet. These locomotives were designed and built between 1962 and 1968 by Brush Traction and British Rail Crewe Works. They were used all over the western region hauling passenger services and can still be seen running up and down the country with special services.
MECHANICAL
- Powerful 5-pole, twin shaft motor with two brass flywheels providing drive to both bogies
- Four axle drive with ‘floating’ middle axle for smooth riding qualities
- Diecast metal chassis block
- Precision gearboxes with gearing arranged for prototypical running speeds and haulage capability
- OO gauge finescale wheels with painted wheel faces
- Detachable coupling pockets to NEM362 standards at both ends
- Designed to operate on curves of second radius (438mm) or greater

DECORATION
- Minutely researched and applied liveries on all models, based on archive photos and comments provided by acknowledged Class 47 experts
- Multiple paint applications employed on each model using colours based on original paint specifications
- Logos, numerals and text added as appropriate using multi-stage tampo printing using authentic typefaces, logos and colours
- Painted wheel faces to eliminate toy-like shiny effect of chemically blackened wheels
- Colours based on official BR and train operator paint references and painting instructions.

For me these models look the part, the the sound quality is very good and coupled with good fit, finish and running it's hard not to like them.
For the price it represents good value for money and I'm really pleased with the 47s I've added to my collection. Happy to recommend them.
Another fantastic Heljan model. The photos don't do this model justice. It really is excellent. The livery is extremely well applied. Plenty of fine details across the model including excellent buffer beam and nose details. Chassis details are neatly picked out. Sound file is top notch. Really captures the Class 47 sound. Very smooth and quiet running locomotive with plenty of pulling power. Grab a bargain while you can - you won't be disappointed.
This is one of my favourite livery's it looks well pulling my parcels train.
The pulling power of these locos is second to none.
Well worth the money very pleased
Great experience from start to finish with Heljan, loco was received within a couple of days of placing the order but unfortunately on arriving it turned out that the number two end red lights were not functioning correctly. Following a quick message via support got the issue resolved but due to the popularity I had to go for an alternative BR Blue loco which arrived in first class condition. All functions 100%. Despite this issue it was handled quickly and easily. Great service Heljan from an happy customer,
messy taking off front parts to fit coupling .No wheel bearings ie axles rotate on plastic which if breaks thats iot
Got this with the 30% spin and win promo so ended up being £140 which considering it has a high spec ESU loksound 5 sound project in it is impressive. Yes the shape is off, though in this livery i only notice it looking face on so again for 140, its fine. Its nicley painted, full cab interior with light, sounds pretty good and runs very smoothly. Very happy with it
Arrived in one piece, very pleased with it, sound file is good, for the money.
Arrived safely; excellent packaging. At the pricing point this is a superb model. Following its recommended run in the locomotive ran smoothly on my network including crossing standard and express points. The sound was a little soft and the lighting functions were fine. The extras and details were o.k. This you would expect at the retail price The colours are representative of the locomotive with no noticeable glue or paint splashes. The locomotive pulled a rake of Bachman post and Royal Mail coaches with ease. There was no derailments in forward or reverse motion. I recommend this class 47 at the current price as a good basic plus model.
