A great model, it looks good and sounds good.

Absolutely brilliant - this is the first Heljan loco I have bought new. I think it's important to credit the the design and livery choices to pre-Accurascale Heljan - the final sign-off and packaging was post acquirement I believe, so the new era looks to be a cracker built on what was already top-draw stuff.

What an amazing model... runs smoothly, captures the character of the real thing brilliantly, and its amazingly well detailed.

Lovely rendition of the warship class, some small inaccuracies but all in all a great model. The sound is too die for absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended

After two failures of sound-fitted versions of this model, I decided to go for the silent version. To be honest, this version is not quite silent with bit of hum at low volts but this seems to be stop once the loco is in motion. Livery is very nice but I believe that the running number should really read 220 021-0 on one side as it correctly does at one end. The lighting is fine on the ends but the cab lighting is too bright (I turned this off anyway as I am on DC). The engine room light, on the other hand, is barely visible except when running in complete darkness. The lack of etched nameplates is a disappointment which will be hard to rectify for this particular model.
Other than that the main issue was Royal Mail's abysmal service; not delivering on the date they specified by e-mail (I waited in all day in vain). The deliveries of the two failed sound-fitted models by DPD were fine, as were the two returns by the same company. I would suggest that Heljan should not use Royal Mail as a carrier in future following this experience.

Sound isn't the best, bit of tweaking of cv's might improve it. Quality of finish is poor, glue blob on roof and metal chassis casting shows significant machining marks... I'm unlikely to buy another.

Have quite a few Bachman's and wanted the model in DB colours. Uploaded a video of the model on a test track hauling 7 coaches a day after receiving it and had nearly 500 views so far and one indicating they had purchased the model having seen it. Link here:

There’s never been much wrong with Heljan. I’ve had some great models from them of some very obscure BR Diesel’s and I love them. But their joining up with Accurascale has definitely upped their game.
This Class 42 is absolutely amazing. Lovely detail and quite a bruiser. The livery is beautifully applied and to look at it is truly wonderful. Very high spec. I’d opted for the faux DB livery and I adore the look and style of the model. The beautiful packaging and box are works of art in their own right. But oh my goodness, the sound! Wow. It sounds just like the prototype and the functions are excellent.
I’d intended to buy one of these before the merger with Accurascale and I was pleasantly surprised to find myself getting this model considerably cheaper than I would have paid. I’ve got a 44 Peak on preorder and I can’t wait to see and hear that!

I was very pleased when Heljan announced this version of the class 42 having visited Germany and having seen one or their V200’s in the flesh.
This particular model is presented within a presentation box that differs from the other class 42’s which in my opinion makes this model a collectible.
To my surprise, the model is quite heavy and built to a high standard, the detail and livery application are extremely good indeed.
My particular model is a DCC sound fitted version, equipped with an ESU Loksound5 decoder and an impressive bass reflex speaker, the sound project incorporated into this model is extremely good with 32 DCC functions available, some of these are configurable too.
I am also impressed with the lighting arrangements which include white marker lights, a single red tail light, two cab lights in each end of the locomotive, and engine room lighting.
An extensive accessory bag is also included.
One minor niggle, out of the box this model ran at slow speed with a slightly jerky motion, however I was able to correct this by placing the model on a piece of track, then reprogramming CV54 to zero.
I am extremely pleased with this purchase and I believe Heljan have produced a very fine example of the class 42 Warship.

Lovely smooth runner with great sound quality; feels weighty in the hand. Fits right into my layout where I run both German and British outline on the same layout, just swapping over the stock . I can leave this one on all the time!!! Surprised it didn't have a stay alive but so far doesn't appear to need one.
