1960年から1962年にかけて製造されたクラス45は、ブリティッシュ・レイルウェイズのダービー工場とクルー工場の共同作業によって作られ、ミッドランド・メインラインの主力牽引機関車として1982年まで安定して活躍しました。HST導入後は二次的なサービスに使用されました。
