MaK G 1206 – The Prototype Behind Our Model
Our model of the MaK G 1206 is based on one of Europe's most successful diesel-hydraulic locomotives.
The G 1206 was developed by the German locomotive manufacturer Maschinenbau
Kiel (MaK) in the late 1970s as a further development of the company's earlier shunting and light freight locomotives.
Production began in 1981, and the locomotive quickly gained popularity thanks to its robust design, high tractive effort, and low operating costs. The locomotive is equipped with a powerful diesel engine and a hydraulic transmission, providing smooth power delivery and making it equally suitable for shunting duties and freight operations
on secondary railway lines.
With a maximum speed of either 80 or 100 km/h, depending on the version, the G 1206 proved capable of handling a wide variety of tasks for national railways, industrial operators, and private railway companies alike.
More than 300 units were built and delivered to customers across Europe. Following the
acquisition of MaK's locomotive business by Vossloh in 1998, production continued in updatedversions under the Vossloh name.
In Denmark, the MaK G 1206 became particularly well known through private freight operators and railway contractors. The locomotives have been operated by companies including CFL Cargo Danmark, Railion Danmark, Dansk Jernbane Service, and several infrastructure contractors, where they have performed duties ranging from shunting and track maintenance to hauling freight trains.
Their versatility and reliability have made them a familiar sight on the Danish railway network since the 1990s.
