As Class 45 numbers dwindled during the late 1980s, four Class 45/0s received a temporary reprieve to work electrification and engineering trains on the northern section of the East Coast Main Line. Renumbered into the Class 97/4 series, these locomotives became firm enthusiast favourites.
Our weathered model depicts 97409 Lytham St Annes in 1987/88 condition, complete with Tinsley depot embellishments and painted nameplates. Ideal for engineers’ trains, departmental stock and freight workings of the period, it captures one of the most memorable chapters in the class’s history.
