Class 26 (O Gauge)

The British Rail Class 26 was a fleet of diesel-electric locomotives built between 1958 and 1959 by Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon for British Rail. Powered by Sulzer engines, they began work on the Eastern Region of BR before migrating to Scottish Region and became a common sight on Highland and Far North Line services. The BRCW Type 2s handled passenger, freight, and mixed traffic duties with reliability. In the 1970s they received TOPS classification as Class 26 and later liveries. Withdrawn during the 1980s and 1990s, some were preserved, ensuring the type remains remembered as a step in Britain’s move away from steam.
