PROTOTYPE

This much-requested and widely travelled First Generation DMU, providing the ideal companion for other HELJAN OO gauge models, including the Class 25, 45 and 47.

BR Class 104 DMU built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. for the London Midland and North Eastern Regions. CAD work is in progress and images will be released as soon as design work is complete. This model will be available in a wide range of BR liveries covering the life of the class from 1957 until retirement of the final sets in 1993.

With 302 vehicles built to six different car types, the ‘104s’ are the largest group of BR diesel railcars not currently available in ready-to-run form. The only previous RTR model was produced for ‘TT’ gauge in the late-1950s.

Although synonymous with the Manchester area and the routes to Buxton and Blackpool, the units worked across a wide area of northern England and the Midlands and towards the end of their career ventured further afield to Scotland and the south-east of England.

MODEL

The new HELJAN OO gauge Class 104 will feature a low profile mechanism powering one car per set, switchable interior and exterior lighting features, a 21-pin DCC decoder interface and provision for DCC sound. Options for factory-fitted DCC sound on all models are being investigated and will be announced separately. External features will include authentic detail variations appropriate to period and livery, a highly-detailed interior and underframe, separate handrails and sprung buffers.

This is a well detailed 3-car DMU model that runs nicely. I particularly like the couplings which can be more of a fiddle in recent products. I originally decided not to order this as I thought it, like most other recent DMUs was overpriced for what is essentially a loco plus two coaches , but with the significant reduction in price I'm glad I waited till it became more affordable

The detail in these 3 DMU cars is superb. The running quality is right up there with all the best rated oo gauge items. The ease of fitting decoders and passengers etc is very 21st century. Overall very impressive.

This is my third class 104 DMU so can confirm these are a good model, especially at the new ‘Accurascaled’ prices! They are a detailed and well finished model that run extremely well. My only adverse comment would be the attachment of the destination boxes with short thin wires that break if accidentally pulled when removing the body to fit a decoder! Not able to change the destination either which is a shame. This does however not detract from these excellent models which bring back many memories of past journeys to Blackpool, and indeed Fleetwood (a very long time ago)! It is fantastic that Accurascale have taken over Heljan as their attention to detail far exceeds the old Heljan and will no doubt result in even better models in the future with silly design errors being a thing of the past.

This was a unit I would have to go with my green with whiskers version, but at the price of three car units it was a maybe for me. Now this version has appeared at a reduced price I purchased one but haven't had a chance to run it yet.
